Finches Information and Tips for Bird Lovers

If you're looking for finches information on their behavior, feeding habits and reproductive cycle, this short article should be able to help you. For as long as you have the resources to keep them alive comfortably, it shouldn't be a problem to track their mating habits and produce offspring.

This particular species is found in its native land of Australia, although it has since spread around to many parts of the globe. They are popular pets because of their colorful markings; even in the same finch specie you can find different kinds of colors. Their wild counterparts have dark shadings, with the males being more brightly colored than the females. They also have bright orange pouches on their faces.

You can also count on these birds to have different kinds of calls. A typical pair can produce a variety of chirps, beeps and songs. In small numbers, these finches can produce pleasant harmonies, but if you keep more at one time, it may get a bit too noisy, so prepare in advance. The usual call will start with a simple beep, but it will gradually get more and more complex.

These birds tend to be more vocal around groups. This is because of their innate social behavior. For new owners, always keep at least two birds in the same cage. A solitary finch in one cage will be very stressed, but two birds can keep each other company. You shouldn't find any problems between birds in the same cage save for an occasional scuffle.

Unfortunately, they are particularly shy around humans. If they are not used to your presence, they will fly away to a far spot in their birdcage. They also don't like to be held, although there have been cases where birds that were trained while they were young got used to being petted.

Breeding shouldn't be a problem for as long as they have all of the necessary nutrients that they need. In fact, among most species, this is one of the easiest to breed. It shouldn't surprise the owner to find that the lone pair that he had has suddenly increased by four or five within a couple of months.

To give you some warning about this possibility, check their behavior. A pair that has bred and is expecting to lay eggs will start building a nest. The pair will utilize any material available, but put in a ready built nest to keep the cage tidy. You should expect to find around five eggs at every cycle. The pair will then take turns in keeping them warm by lying on top of them.

You should expect to see the young ones out of the nest after about a month and a half. Soon after, they will start exploring the cage. If you have a large enough space, it shouldn't be a problem keeping all of them in. Most finches information guides recommend keeping ample space between the birds.

If you are thinking about raising a species of bird, finches are an excellent choice. When you choose finches as your pet birds you will absolutely love them. They are a fabulous pet.
